Norton EPC (Evangelical Presbyterian Church) is grounded in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as our only authority in matters of faith and practice. We are part of the whole church of God as represented by His believers all over the world. The word “Presbyterian” comes from presbuteros, the Greek word for “elder.” It simply describes how the church is governed rather than a specif rule about daily life. We are a congregation that seeks to glorify God through worship, preaching, teaching, and everyday Christian living. Our affiliation with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church was established several years ago when the congregation voted to remove its affiliation with the Presbyterian Church USA. All allegiance is to the Word of God first and the Book of Order second. Norton EPC will always treat the Word of God as central to the mission of the church and strives, as Paul wrote to the Ephesians, to live as the body of Christ, a holy temple where God lives by the Spirit, as a unified family of diverse believers. Christ is the head (Eph. 1:22-23, 4: 15-16). We are a family of believers (Eph. 2:19) who share one Lord, one faith, and one baptism (Eph. 4: 4-6). Jesus is both our Savior and our Lord. Salvation is a gift from God, not earned by human works. As a body, we stand firm against evil and place our faith fully in the Word made flesh (John 1).
At the heart of what we believe:
- God is one God eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again; salvation is by grace through faith in Him alone.
- The Bible is God’s Word and the sure guide for life and doctrine.
- The church exists to preach the Word, gather believers, and make disciples.
We also affirm the Five Solas of the Reformation: Scripture alone, faith alone, grace alone, Christ alone, and glory to God alone.
